Module 1 - Where do I start?
We begin by learning how to hire the perfect employee for your team, and how to build that team, aligning values, and establishing your personal leadership style. You’ll learn the seven most common pitfalls to avoid as a First Time Manager, and the difference between leadership vs management.
Module 2 - How do I lead my team?
We’ll get into the nuts and bolts of management here – building trust, the differences between managing introverts and extroverts on your team, and how to keep your people engaged. We’ll investigate how to delegate effectively; the problems that can arise from the two extremes of micromanaging and undermanaging; the importance of clear communication; and how to manage a team remotely.
Module 3 - How to build motivation, relationships and trust
This one’s all about development for your team. You’ll learn how to become a coach and the skills you need to do this effectively, along with psychological safety and the importance of motivation. You’ll learn about the power of empowerment for your team, and how to back that up with goal setting, active listening and coaching conversations – and why it’s not always advisable to give advice.
Module 4 - Managing myself in a new role
It’s all about you: your work-life balance, and how to manage those new demands on your time and the stress that can bring: building your resilience and avoiding burnout. We’ll discuss how to be compassionate to yourself and others, how to employ assertiveness to make sure your needs are met, and how to use empathy to understand where others are coming from.
Module 5 - How to handle difficult conversations and emotions at work
Emotions are always a factor wherever we are – at work as well as at home – and they influence how we communicate and how we react. We’ll look at handling our own emotions, helping others to handle theirs, and how we deal with feedback for ourselves and others – especially having those difficult conversations. We’ll investigate the way we communicate, and how it affects us and those around us.
Module 6 - Wrap up and real life scenarios
In this session we bring it all together, using real life scenarios to put what we’ve learned into practice. We’ll also talk about the psychology of persuasion, and how it can benefit you and your team.
My own leadership journey started over 20 years ago when I set up my own Language Centre, and after securing my first contract with the biggest pharmaceutical company in Poland at the time – to teach their managers English – I suddenly became a leader.
Having never been trained as a manager, I found myself employing my former colleagues. It was an interesting experience, to say the least.
I made a few mistakes on my leadership journey, especially at the beginning.
I was micromanaging, I was acting like my staff’s friend which made it hard for me to make them accountable for their actions. I was also not delegating enough and was using up all my energy in my business, with not much left for my private life and small children at the time.
However, the lessons I have learnt on how to connect, and how to lead with empathy and compassion, were lessons for life. Over time I was leading five locations of the company and over 30 staff. I successfully sold my company after 10 years of running it.
I went on to study Business Psychology, and gained Coaching Certifications which allowed me to get a deeper understanding of how people work best together so that businesses can thrive.
I have trained managers for John Lewis, Taylor Wimpey, 3M as well as many smaller businesses.
Now, I’m helping people just like you, who have lost themselves in their roles (whether because it’s new and overwhelming, or because they’ve seen it all and don’t feel it anymore), and who are looking to get their confidence, purpose and motivation back.
